How to link PAN Card with Aadhaar Card

In the world of the digital era, gone are the days when people used to stand for long hours in government lines to get their work done. It was so much time-consuming and also irritating at the same time. But now Internet has made our lives easy. For instance, today we can digitally link our important documents like PAN cards with Aadhaar cards. Let us go through its procedure.

Aadhar Card- This unique 12-digit card came in the year 2009, which is unique and belongs individually to Indian citizens.

PAN Card- A 10-digit card, which is issued by the Income-tax department to every Indian, who applies for it or to whom the department allots it. PAN was made mandatory in the year 1976 for every taxpayer who is eligible of paying Tax.

Why is it important to link PAN with an Aadhaar card?


As per an amendment in Income-tax Act in 2017, it was made compulsory to link Aaadhaar cards with PAN Card, the last date of which has now been extended to 31st March 2022. Beneath, we would like to guide you with the procedure of linking the cards digitally.

Methods to link Aadhar Card with PAN Card

There are two simple ways to link an Aadhaar card with PAN Card. The procedure is as follows:

Procedure 1-
You can link your Aadhaar Card with the PAN Card by simply sending an SMS on 56161 or 567678 from your mobile number that is registered, in the format shown below:
    
     UIDPAN(space)(12 digit unique Aadhar number)(space)(10 digit PAN number)
     For Instance: UIDPAN 098765432156 AGTFD6789J

If the information entered by you is correct, your Aadhaar Card will be linked with your PAN Card in no time.

Procedure 2-
Another procedure to link both the cards are as follows in steps:

Step 1-
First things first, you need to log in to the Income Tax department website. To go to the website press, the link after reaching the page on your left-hand side there, are some headings of Quick links, in which you will find an option of Link Aadhaar. After selecting the Link Aadhaar option, you will be taken to the page where you are asked certain details of yours such as:

PAN Number-
Aadhar Number-
Name as on Aadhaar Card-
Registered Mobile Number-

After filling in the above details again, there are two square boxes:
Which asks  “I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card”  if it is so, you need to select the first box, and if your full date of birth is mentioned, in your Aadhaar Card you can ignore the first box.
The second box asks for your permission, which says “I agree to validate my Aadhaar details” you need to select this box for further procedure.

Lastly, on the right side of this page, you need to select the option Link Aadhaar. 

Step 2-
Once, you have selected Link Aadhaar on the previous page, on your registered mobile number you will receive a six-digit One Time Password. After entering your six-digit OTP, you need to click on the option “ Validate”.

Thus, this completes the procedure of linking Aadhaar with your PAN Card. You will then receive a message of successful linking, and after cross-checking all your information, your Aadhaar will be linked with your PAN Card.

These are the two simple, easy, and quick ways of linking your Aadhaar card with your Pan Card. once you have successfully completed your linking procedure. You can also check the status of the PAN and Aadhaar link.

Link Aadhaar Status

For this, you again need to visit the home page of the Income-tax department, the link of which is mentioned above. On coming, on the home page, on your left-hand side, you will see an option Link Aadhaar status. Once you click on it server takes you to another page that asks for some details such as:

Aadhaar Number-
 
Then, on the right side, click on the option “ view link Aadhaar status”. If the pop-up message comes in Green, it will state that your Aadhaar is linked, with your PAN.
But, if the linking procedure is still incomplete, the pop-up message will come in Red.

Now at times due to a mismatch in Aadhaar and PAN card information the linking process slows down. 
In the case, of a minor mismatch it can be corrected by a small procedure, which is also by sending an OTP on the registered mobile number, and an individual is supposed to go through it all over again.

But, in some major cases suppose where the Name of the user is completely different from one that is mentioned in Aadhar detail and one on the Aadhaar data. The linking process can fail. Now the user will be supposed to change the name in either of the documents and, they will again have to go through the whole procedure.
